2011 "Reserve" Cabernet Sauvignon

Napa Valley (Atlas Peak) - Released November 2014

Winemaking Notes:

Just eight new French oak barrels were set aside for this very special "row select" limited release from our Alta home vineyard high on Atlas Peak. Comprised of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, clone 6. Aged in 100% new French oak for 30 months. The theme of the 2011 vintage was the unique concentration of flavors that came with the unusually cool year. The grapes enjoyed a longer hang time with harvest being delayed a month. The gamble to let the fruit mature longer than usual paid off with amazing structure and silky tannins. No fining or filtration. Only 180 cases produced.

Tasting Notes:

The 2011 Alta "Vintner's Reserve" Cabernet Sauvignon has a nose of fresh plums, cassis, cherries, and dark fruit with a hint of roasted coffee, caramel and violets. The wine has great depth and textural richness with layer after layer of dark fruit. The wine builds in the mouth nicely with the rich fruit elements and fine tannins, unfolding into lingering suggestions of coffee, graphite, and violets. The 2011 Reserve has excellent aging potential; while drinking nicely now, it will also reward patient cellaring for 10 to 12 years.
