2013 "Oso Malo" Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley (Atlas Peak) - Released September 2017
The grapes are sourced from our very own Alta Vineyard in the Atlas Peak District of the Napa Valley. 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Merlot grapes were aged in a mixtue of 70% new and 30% second year French oak barrels for 20 months. Grapes enjoyed a normal ripening season in 2014 and the harvest benefited from the indian summer weather we had in September and October of 2014. The wine has chewy, yet soft and velvet like tannins and it is showing great structure and balance at this early stage. The wine should age well for the next 10 to 12 years. No additives, fining or filtration.
The 2013 Alta Napa Valley Winery Cabernet Sauvignon has a floral nose with hints of, liquorice, fresh plums, cassis, cherries, and dark fruit with a hint of burnt caramel and roasted coffee. In the mouth, compote of blueberry and currants comes forward in front of the chewy and velvet like tannins. The tannins are just the right size to create a lattice for the fruit so that it lingers on the palate. The scent of violets comes up over time, and the soft tannins are integrated into a delicious mouth feel. This wine has good potential to age well, but it’s showing well as a young wine.
